The Prince of Monaco visits the Azerbaijani pavilion at the Venice Biennale

Monaco’s ruling Prince Albert II familiarized himself with the Azerbaijani pavilion organized with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation at the 55th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia.

Azerbaijan’s “Ornaments” pavilion located at Lezze Palace related to the 14th century at Campo Santo Stefano was opened on June 1st. In this pavilion are presented our national and cultural heritage through contemporary art samples of Azerbaijan’s 6 contemporary artists – Rashad Alakbarov, Fakhriyya Mammadova, Chingiz, Sanan Alasgarov, Butunay Hagverdiyev and Farid Rasulov.

Having participated in the Venice Biennale since 2007, Azerbaijan each time attracts viewers’ attention with different expositions. Azerbaijan’s pavilion this year was one of the first five grandiose pavilions among  those of 88 participant-countries.

Noting that the pavilion being presented under the name of “Ornaments” gives a broad idea of Azerbaijan’s history and cultural heritage, Prince of Monaco Albert II said such exhibitions were of much significance in terms of promoting countries. Visiting only the Azerbaijani exhibition among national pavilions at the Venice Biennale, Prince Albert told that the “Ornament” installation made of wooden plates, underlining the similarities and originality of different nations by Eastern and Western symbols make unforgettable impression on viewers.

The Prince of Monaco said Azerbaijan’s contemporary art is known to the world, along with its old history, and emphasized that such projects are of significance in terms of bringing different nations closer. Albert II said  he was interested in implementing projects in future that would serve promoting Azerbaijan’s culture in Monaco.

Azerbaijan’s national pavilion at the 55th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia will continue until November 24th.
