8th International Music Festival in Gabala

During 30 July to 5 August 2016, the 8th International Music Festival took place in Gabala.

 

Eminent musicians, artistic groups, soloists and conductors from Azerbaijan, Austria, Bulgaria, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Italy, France, Spain, Israel, Lithuania and Cuba participated in the Festival, held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

 

On July 30, official opening of the Festival took place on a grandiose scene installed before the Heydar Aliyev Congress Centre in Gabala. Congratulatory letter of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva was read to the participants of the Festival.

 

The 4th International Contest of Young Pianists took place, during 2nd to 5th August, within the framework of the Festival.

 

The first place at the Contest went to Azerbaijani pianist Vurghun Vekilov and Anna Kavalerova from Russia. Pianist from Azerbaijan Tofig Shikhiyev and Russian pianist Yevgenia Antonova took the second place. Nobody took the third place at the contest. Rashid Behbudov and Atabala Manafzadeh were honoured with a diploma for their distinguished performances. Money awards were given to winners and distinguished performers.

 

In accordance with the Festival’s programme, works by great composers of Azerbaijan and of the world were performed on the Gabala scene. Along with world-renowned musicians, young talents too performed on the Festival’s open scene, and in the chamber hall.

 

The festival ended with Mardan’s aria from G.Garayev and J.Hajiyev’s “Homeland” Opera, and M.Magomayev’s “Azerbaijan” song.
