Uzeir Hajibeyli 8th International Music Festival

During 18-27 September 2016, the Uzeir Hajibeyli 8th International Music Festival took place in Baku.

 

Music groups from Russia, USA, Israel, Germany, Turkey and Georgia performed, along with those from Azerbaijan, with concert programmes in the Festival held with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

 

On September 18, inauguration of the Festival took place in the State Philharmonic of Azerbaijan named after Muslim Magomayev. The festival was announced open by performing an overture from “Koroghlu” Opera by the State Symphonic Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Uzeir Hajibeyli (Orchestra’s artistic director and chief conductor was People’s Artist Rauf Abdullayev).

 

At the evening, a number of music compositions were presented to the audience by the State Capella of Azerbaijan, under People’s Artist Gulbaji Imanova’s artistic leadership.

 

Over 30 events took place within the framework of the Festival. At a classic music concert within the framework of the Festival, Israeli musicians Hagay Shaham (violin) and Julia Gourvich (piano-forte) performed works by I.Bramms, E.Grieg and R.Schumann, Giuseppe Verdi’s “Ball-Mascaraed” Opera was presented, and a solo concert of Honoured Artist, professor of the Baku Music Academy, laureate of international contest Nargiz Aliyarova took place. Presentation of the “Electronic Catalogue of Azerbaijani Composer and Musicians” took place at the Museum Centre.

 

The Music Festival came to an end on September 27. At the closing ceremony, the State Symphonic Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after U.Hajibeyli and the Tbilisi State Conservatoire’s Youth Choir and a small staff of the State Capella of Azerbaijan performed with concert programmes. The Orchestras were directed by People’s Artist Fakhraddin Karimov. Works by eminent composers Dmitri Shostakovich and Gioachino Rossini were performed under the artistic leadership of Liana Chonishvili from Georgia and People’s Artist Gulbaji Imanova.
