Demonstration of “Shadows of Gobustan” Ballet and inauguration of an exhibition with photos of Gobustan petroglyphs take place at UNESCO

Demonstration of “Shadows of Gobustan” Ballet and inauguration of an exhibition with photos of Gobustan petroglyphs took place, September 17, within the framework of Gobustan’s promotion at UNESCO.

 

Arriving at UNESCO headquarters, Azerbaijan’s First Lady, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva met with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova. At the meeting, significance of the projects being implemented jointly by Azerbaijan and UNESCO was emphasized, importance of the presentation associated with Gobustan at UNESCO underscored, and confidence was expressed with regard to extending bilateral relations further.

 

Delivering a speech before the demonstration of “Shadows of Gobustan” Ballet, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova expressed her pleasure of seeing presentation of Gobustan – one of the masterpieces of Azerbaijan and world’s cultural heritage - at UNESCO.

 

Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev talked about the works done and projects implemented in the country towards preserving Gobustan – national treasure of Azerbaijan - and handing it down in future generations.

 

Then demonstration of “Shadows of Gobustan” Ballet took place.

 

First premiere of “Shadows of Gobustan” Ballet – one of the unfading works of great Azerbaijani composer Faraj Garayev – took place in 1969. Later it was successfully shown in Paris, Nice, Luxembourg, Monte Carlo, Saint Petersburg, Kiev and other cities.

 

On the same day, opening of an exhibition with photos of Gobustan petroglyphs took place with the organizational support of the Permanent Representative Office of Azerbaijan under UNESCO, and with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
