Mehriban Aliyeva attended the 7th International Congress in Paris devoted to victims of terror


The 7th International Congress was held in Paris on September 15 devoted to victims of terror. First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva attended the congress.


First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva was greeted at a Military School in the 7th District of Paris, where the congress was held, by General Director of the French Terror Victims Association Guillaume de Saint-Marc.


Participants of the event were photographed.


Then victims of world terror acts were remembered with the minute’s silence.


The Congress being held with support of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and on the initiative of the French Terror Victims Association and the International Terror Victims Organization was opened by Guillaume de Saint-Marc.


Greeting the participants, the General Director of the Association emphasized the significance of the event and thanked the partners of the Congress. It was noted that along with the European Commission, Ministries of Foreign and Europe Affairs, Defence, Justice, Internal Affairs of France and Paris Municipality, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was also among the partners of the Congress.


Stating that Azerbaijan paid special attention to the Congress, Guillaume de Saint-Marc emphasized that participation of victims from Azerbaijan was realized with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Having mentioned his visit to our country and meeting with terror victims,   the Director General of the French Terror Victims Association highly appreciated establishment of a similar organization in Azerbaijan. Guillaume de Saint-Marc noted that so far such Congress was held in Spain and Columbia. This Congress got together terror victims and their relatives from over 35 countries. The primary objective of the event was to support people suffering from terror. The Director General mentioned that a monument will be erected in future in memory of world victims of terror attacks. 


Chairman of the International Terror Victims Organization Carlos Romeo said the event was of great significance to terror victims, and added that all countries, governments and civilians should get together in struggle against terror, and a struggle against this evil, which is a threat to the whole universe, should be carried on in a coordinated manner. He told that terror and all its after-effects are a threat not only to one nation, but also to the whole universe as a whole. Carlos Romeo informed that next such a Congress will be held in Spain.


Charles Rivkin, the US ambassador to France and Monaco, talked about 9/11 events.  He noted that some 3 thousand people were victims of terror during those events. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of taking all necessary actions in order to prevent recurrence of such events in future. The diplomat talked of the works carried out in his country toward struggle against terror.


First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva delivered a speech at the event.


Then French Justice Minister Michel Mercier took the floor. Delivering greetings of French President Nicolas Sarkozy to the Congress participants, Michel Mercier emphasized that terror victims should always be covered with care, and everyone should be concerned about their hardships and problems. Noting that terror was a universal evil, the Justice Minister brought to the participants’ attention that support to terror victims was significant for all nations.


Then Spanish Princess delivered a speech. “There is no way to justify acts of terrorists” said the princess and emphasized that everybody should struggle to eradicate the terror across the world.


Being on the focus of attention of French and European press, the event got together influential and well known world public and political figures, representatives of various nations, ambassadors of USA, Russia, Spain, Columbia, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq in France, and experts from these countries.
