The second sitting of the Organising Committee of the 1st European Games to be held in Baku

The second sitting of the Organising Committee of the 1st European Games to be held in 2015 in Baku took place.

Chairperson of the Organising Committee Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the sitting.

Address by Mehriban Aliyeva:

- Dear participants of the sitting.

Today we are holding the second sitting of the Organising Committee of the 1st European Games. The first sitting was held on February 2nd under the leadership of the President. This fact shows that the State has shown very much attention to the preparation and holding of these Games.

Much preparation works have been carried out during the period elapsed since our first meeting. Actions have been taken towards solution of issues facing us. At the same time, new calls, new challenges have emerged. I’m hopeful  in today’s meeting we’ll be able to discuss all these issues together.

The biggest responsibility rest upon the Organising Committee. As you know, in 2015, the 1st European Games will be held in our country. No such event had been held so far. Notwithstanding that the Olympic movement was born in Europe and then was again rehabilitated in Europe, continental games had been held in other continents, and we have been favoured with holding first such games in Europe. We have to do our best to make sure that preparation for these Games are made and the Games held at the highest level. In general, this is a start of a new era in Europe’s sport movement, and Azerbaijan is the first country to write the first pages of this history.

I would like to note that we have only two years for preparation works. To be more precise, 98 weeks left to start the Games, which means we have very little time left. Therefore, we have to work harder and do our utmost to achieve the solution of the issues our State put before us. I’m sure we will make it.
