The 6th International Junior Science Olympiad ends

The 6th International Junior Science Olympiad ended in Baku.


Rewarding of winners took place on December 10 at Buta Palace.

 

More than 600 pupils and their teachers from 49 countries participated in the Olympiad held among 15-year-old teenagers in physics, chemistry and biology. 

 

In the Olympiad supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, IJSO (International Junior Science Olympiad) and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) 258 pupils from 5 continents replied to the test, theoretical and practical tasks of 30 questions. Answers were estimated by 18 experienced teachers selected by the Science Committee of the Olympiad.

 

Participants watched a video showing the course of the Olympiad.    

 

Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov said all works have been done according to the regulations to host the Olympiad in the high level.

 

He emphasized Azerbaijan is the first European country to host the event.

 

“I want to emphasize once again that it is very honoring that this event is taking place in our country. I hope this Olympiad will serve as great science and friendship network for many teenagers from different countries of world. During these days you will get a chance to learn more about Azerbaijan’s history, culture, cuisine, to feel the hospitality of our people and to colorize your life”, the Minister said.

 

Participants of the Olympiad won 20 golden, 60 silver and 84 bronze medals.

 

Of 12 Azerbaijani schoolchildren who partook in the Olympiad, 2 won silver medals, while 7 bronze.

 

With 6 golden medals the Russian team took the first place.

 

Hafiz Pashayev, Deputy Foreign Minister, Rector of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, Head of Science Committee established for preparation for the Olympiad, Misir Mardanov, Education Minister, Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth and Sport, Masno Ginting, President of the 6th International Science Olympiad, Samad Seyidov, Rector of Azerbaijan Languages University, Chairman of International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations Committee at Milli Mejlis, and others presented awards to the winners. 

 

Young musicians gave a concert in the Olympiad.
