President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO Mehriban Aliyeva attends the annual session of Goodwill Ambassadors of the organization

The annual report session of goodwill ambassadors of UNESCO was held on May 20 in Paris. President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, member of Milli Mejlis Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva attended the session.

 

Top officials of UNESCO welcomed Mehriban Aliyeva at the head office of the organization.

 

Prior to the session, goodwill ambassadors expressed gratitude to President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva for organizing in high level the 5th regional conference of UNESCO titled ‘Addressing Literacy Challenges in Europe with Sub-Regional Focus: Building Partnerships and Promoting Innovative Approaches’ held in Baku in frame of the series of UNESCO regional conferences on support to literacy in the world. They valued the conference as the important event towards removal of illiteracy in the region.

 

Director General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura opened the annual report session of the goodwill ambassadors, expressed hope for success of the session.

 

Attendees of the session honored famous musician, our countryman Mstislav Rostropovich to the minute of silence.

 

Director General of UNESCO emphasized in his speech education, specially removal of illiteracy in the world. According to him, 72 million children in the world do not attend the school. There are still problems in involvement of teens in education. K.Matsuura underlined importance of the 5th regional conference held in Baku on this point and thanked Mehriban Aliyeva for organizing the event in high level. He talked of the dialog of cultures and civilizations, as well climate change, food security, formation of health care services.
