With a view to more broadly  and efficiently demonstrating carpets, one of he rare pearls of our country, a decision was made to construct a stand-alone building for the Museum, following the relevant resolution of President Ilham Aliyev and, on May 15, 2008,  a ceremony of laying the foundation of the building took place in the Seaside National Park.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation and UNESCO have made special contribution to creation of the new building. Constructed in an original style, this building resembles a wrapped-up carpet. At the moment, over 13 thousand 300 exhibits and items are preserved in the Museum’s exhibitions and funds. A rare collection consisting of carpets and carpet products, metal items, fabrics, clothes and embroidery, ceramics, glass, wood, paper, jewellery, books and photos are preserved in the Museum. Perfect conditions have been created in the Museum to acquaint visitors with this collection. Preservation and conservation of carpets and carpet products in the Museum’s fund is ensured on the basis of recommendations and instructions by Luis Squier, worldwide known for his rich experience, a specialist for conservation of the fabrics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, who had been invited to Baku in 2013.
