President Ilham Aliyev attends the inauguration of the History and Ethnography Museum in Fuzuli district

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the History and Ethnography Museum in Fuzuli district, August 28.

Constructed at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative, this museum accommodates sections related to the Primeval, Bronze, Medieval, New and Newest periods. Built in a special architectural style, the building has been provided with all necessary communication lines and relevant equipment.

The Museum was founded in 1981. In 1993, while the Garabagh war was going on, over 7 thousand exhibits of the Museum were taken to Istiglal Museum in Baku. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, talking into account historical importance of the collected numerous exhibits, opened, in 2006, a branch of the Fuzuli History and Ethnography Museum in Bala Bahmanly village of the district.  At the moment, some 1000 exhibits related to various periods of our nation’s old history and statehood traditions are preserved there. A mock-up of the Azykh Cave and domestic items and labour tools used in the Primeval period are demonstrated in the Museum. All of these exhibits have been discovered during archaeological diggings once carried out on the territory of Fuzuli district. Majority of the exhibits being displayed in the Bronze and Iron Age sections have been found in old graves. Samples of arms used by our ancestors in battles, remnants of domestic equipment have been placed in the section related to the Medieval Ages.

One of the essential factors making the Museum more important is that ethnographic features of Fuzuli district have been widely reflected here. Exhibits reflecting Fuzuli residents’ everyday life in different periods of history too are displayed in the Museum. Small mock-ups of blacksmithery, pottery and carpet-making shops and homes reflect population’s lifestyle and labour in old times.

A special section entitled “A Spark of Victory” is created in the museum, where information about eminent personalities of Fuzuli district, including those who have shown special heroism during the Garabagh war. Information about the lives of national heroes from Fuzuli district, their ways of fighting, 22 villages freed from the occupation due to historical services of national leader Heydar Aliyev, including Horadiz town, as well as restoration and reconstruction works carried out on these territories in the past period is provided here.
