A humanitarian action is held at an orphanage in Lahore city of Pakistan

A humanitarian action is held, following the initiative and with the support of Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva, at Edhi Homes Orphanage in Lahore city of Punjab Province, Pakistan.

 

The event was attended by the country’s minister of customs and taxes Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman, director of the Peace and Diplomatic Researches Institute Mohammad Asif Nur, management of Edhi Homes Orphanage, children living here, and mass media.

 

Speaking at the event, ambassador Dashgyn Shikarov talked about the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan at the moment, and emphasized the role of President Ilham Aliyev from this point of view. The diplomat noted that a series of humanitarian programmes were implemented in all provinces of Pakistan in the fields of healthcare and education, following the initiative and with the support of Mehriban Aliyeva. He mentioned that Mehriban Aliyeva has always shown care and attention, especially, towards orphans.

 

Pakistan’s minister of customs and taxes Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman talked about the history of the relations between our countries and Azerbaijani people’s special love for the people of Pakistan. He recommended children to gain knowledge about Azerbaijan and love our country. The minister expressed sincere thanks to the people and state of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva on behalf of the people of Pakistan for annually holding such actions in all provinces of Pakistan and being at his country’s side in the most difficult days. He emphasized that such humanitarian and social events implemented following Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative and with her support in all provinces of Pakistan has made special contribution to the development of relations existing between the two countries.

 

In his speech, director of the Peace and Diplomatic Researches Institute Mohammad Asif Nur gave information about humanitarian events held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in all regions of Pakistan, and emphasized the significance of the series of events of this type for his country. He also mentioned the organization of Iftar meals for orphans and elderly people in all provinces of Pakistan, distribution of meat of hundreds of sacrificed cattle among poor population, and sincerely thanked the people and state of Azerbaijan for all this support.

 

Then ambassador Dashgyn Shikarov and minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman distributed teaching aids and various gifts on behalf of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

At the end of the event, ambassador Dashgyn Shikarov and minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman gave interview to mass media.

 

In his interview, the minister talked about the humanitarian projects implemented, following Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative, in Pakistan during 2012-2015 in the field of healthcare and education. He informed that vaccinations were carried out against Hepatitis B virus at Edhi Homes Orphanages, Akbar Care Cerebral Palsy Institute, Lakki Marwat Child and Woman Clinic, Peshawar’s Kulsum International Clinic, medical examinations performed, open heart surgeries carried out, and material assistance provided to Saif Foundation. At the same time, Hamza Charity Foundation was donated an ambulance of Suzuki model equipped with special blood-transfusion laboratory, and thousands of blood transfusion packages. Construction of Khyber Eye Clinic’s new block and waiting rooms, as well as Thalassemia Centre in Islamabad were provided financial and technical aids. The minister mentioned the projects “Heydar Aliyev Water Supply” in Dera Ismail Khan district in 2014 and “20 January Martyrs Water Supply” in Gujarkhan in 2015 implemented following the initiative and with the support of Mehriban Aliyeva, and said thanks to these projects, thousands of people living in this territory were provided with drinking water. He also mentioned that, for the humanitarian projects implemented in Pakistan, Mehriban Aliyeva was conferred on a number of awards, such as “Symbol of Humanism – The Woman of 2012” in 2012, “Martyr Benazir Bhutto” in 2013, and “Hilal-e-Pakistan” high order in 2015.

 

Giving an interview to mass media, ambassador Dashgyn Shikarov gave comprehensive information about Azerbaijan-Pakistan friendship, successful foreign policy being implemented in our country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, and the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. He said such humanitarian projects implemented following the initiative and with the support of the Foundation stimulates deepening of the brotherhood relations between our peoples further. It was noted that Pakistan has always been beside Azerbaijan in the process of solving Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlyg Garabagh conflict. The ambassador, highly appreciating Pakistan’s not recognizing Armenia as a state for the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands and the genocide committed against out people, sincerely thanked the state and people of Pakistan.
