Exhibitions are inaugurated in the city of Cannes with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation aiming to promote Azerbaijan

Exhibitions reflecting Azerbaijan’s history and culture, relations between our countries are inaugurated in the French city of Cannes, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

One of the exhibitions is called “Trailing the Partisan”. This exhibition has been devoted to Ahmadiyya Jabrailov, a participant of the World War 2nd, an eminent representative of the French Resistance Movement. Exhibits reflecting the partisan’s life and battle paths, including photos taken from Ahmadiyya Jabrailov’s archive, are demonstrated at the exhibition.

Javanshir Jabrailov, Ahmadiyya Jabrailov’s son, talked about his father’s joining the French partisans during the war, being a hero of the French Resistance Movement, and winning the sympathy of Charles de Gaulle. Feeling very proud of the Azerbaijani flag flying in Cannes and opening of exhibitions in this city with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Javanshir Jabrailov said all these stemmed from the patriotism of Mehriban Aliyeva, the Foundation’s president.

One of the exhibitions concerning Azerbaijan has been opened within the framework of the project “Sharing the Single Sun”. The exhibition and film devoted to multiculturalism and tolerance existing in Azerbaijan within the framework of this project were welcomed with much interest. Photos and film displayed at the exhibition were shot in various corners of Azerbaijan. Here, visitors of the exhibition are given information about the tolerant environment dominating in Azerbaijan, based on photo and video materials reflecting the history, culture and customs of 20 minority nations. And, in the section of the exhibition entitled “Talking Heads”, representatives of various minority peoples and ethnos tell interesting stories in their native language.

At the exhibition is also presented a film named “Sharing the Single Sun”, talking about the customs of various nations living in Azerbaijan. In one word, here, it is clearly shown how representatives of different nations and peoples live as a single family, and that the tolerant environment dominating in our country had an old and rich history.

At the exhibition called “Ganja and Gabala: Two Cities Through the Lens of French Photographers”, beauties of the Azerbaijani nature, its unique culture and customs are presented. With a view to organizing the exhibition, French photographers Samuel Gratacap and Jean-Francois Rauzier made trips to Ganja and Gabala in April 2016, and took a photograph of sightseeing, monuments and daily lives of both the cities of Azerbaijan, with their old history and a leading role in the modern tourism.

French photographer Jean-Francois Rauzier said: “It’s been 45 years that I have been a photographer. I was invited to Ganja and Gabala. The conditions and natural beauty I saw in these places – mountains, a nice landscape - amazed me. People are very hospitable. In Azerbaijan, in its regions, I witnessed multiculturalism, and people of different religions and cultures living together. The tradition of this multiculturalism is clearly reflected in the photos made in Ganja”.

From the very first moments of the exhibitions related to Azerbaijan, it was obvious that visitors showed great interest towards them. A lot of people had come to Cannes to make themselves familiarised with the exhibitions.

Exhibition visitor Jean-Pierre Jacob: “These exhibitions give us detailed information about Azerbaijan and helps to get to know the country closely. I started to know Azerbaijan more closely thanks to the exhibitions arranged in the city of Cannes, and films shown. Today, I very much liked the pictures reflecting Azerbaijan’s nature. Last year, we had been presented many books at the exhibition about Azerbaijan. I’ve read all of them. I had a chance to compare Azerbaijan with other eastern countries I’ve known. This country has its own unique features. The exhibitions arranged here and the books presented inspired me to making a trip to your country together with my wife. We have made a plan to travel to your country in the next future.”

Exhibition visitor Mrs Leopoldine: “Cultural events associated with Azerbaijan organized in Cannes drew my attention. Thanks to the exhibitions organized and films shown here, I had a chance to get to know your country more closely. We get much more information from the books presented. We are astonished at the country’s natural beauty. I very much liked the film associated with tolerance in Azerbaijan. The film fully pictures the multiculturalism existing in the country.

Last year, after returning from Cannes, I made a request to a travel agency and inquired about arranging a tour to Azerbaijan. I would very much like to come to Azerbaijan”.

Exhibition visitor Mrs Toma: “I very much liked the exhibitions. The photos give excellent opportunity to get the country more closely. Through the exhibition and films shown, we witnessed the multiculturalism dominating in the country. We witnessed coexistence of representatives of different religions. Hyper-photos of ancient buildings in Ganja made a great impression on me”.

All the three exhibitions will be open for the residents and visitors of the city of Cannes until July 31.
