“Baku Marathon 2024” held on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation comes to the end

On May 5th, the Baku Marathon 2024 was held on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

 

Held under the slogan “Win the Wind”, the competition brought together over 18 thousand participants. Along with citizens of Azerbaijan, joined the marathon also foreigners living and working in Azerbaijan, as well as people from Germany, China, France, Georgia, India, Iraq, Iran, Italy, Canada, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine etc.

 

Being held for the 7th time, the Baku Marathon gathers people around itself with great passion. As it has been each year, the Baku Marathon has its honorary participants this year too. Over 200 people from different spheres competed as an honorary participant.

 

Organized for the first time in 2016 for the distance of 21 kilometres, the Baku Marathon aims at providing support to the development of sports, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The fact that the number of the participants is increasing year after year is the sign of the interest shown towards the marathon. Persons in need of special care have also participated in this year’s marathon.

 

Although the marathon was launched on 10 a.m., a competition mood had been experienced at the Flag Square since 7 a.m. Trainings took place for participants in the athletes’ zone on Pilates, fitness, yoga, warming-up, boxing, Zumba, and cardio. A fan zone full of entertainment – music, DJ-s and entertainment programmes – was organized in the competition zone for those supporting the marathon.

 

The start and finish points of the competition were at the State Flag Square. The marathon’s route covered the Seaside Boulevard, as well as central streets and avenues.  

 

At the end of the sports competition, held in a windy weather condition, winners were determined. Nataliya Semenovich from Ukraine was the winner in the competition of women. Nataliya Semenovich was also the winner of the Baku Marathon 2023”.

 

Representing Azerbaijan, Anna Yusupova took the second place, while Nelli Gaitova from Kazakhstan was the third.

 

In the competition of men, Ahmet Alkanoğlu from Türkiye arrived at the finish line first. Bogdan Semenovich from Ukraine took the second place, with Ismail Senyange from Uganda being in the third place.

 

The winners of the first three places were rewarded with money - 3000, 2000 and 1000 accordingly, being awarded medals and diplomas.

 

Along the route of the marathon, DJs and entertainment teams consisting of volunteers welcomed the marathon runners, while special volunteer groups helped direct the participants along the route. Mascots, water, transport and first aid stations were also arranged along the 21-km route.

 

Azercell Telecom is the exclusive partner of the Baku Marathon 2024. Execution of the project was carried out by “Sport Marketing Group” (SMG) Company.

 

The marathon was organised with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, SOCAR, the Seaside Boulevard Administration and the Regional Development Public Association, Azerlotereya OJSC,  Skechers, GAC Motors, Push30, Badamly, Liv Bona Dea Hospital, and “Carlsberg Group”.

 

Khazar Media Center supprted the organization of the marathon entertainment zone, while “ASAN Volunteers” provided support to the organization of the volunteer programme.
