Azerbaijan: From Traditions to Contemporaneity

L'Eclectique magazine holds Baku, the Azerbaijan capital city, within its editorial line and will regularly present the talented young population who are willing to share their culture along with their creativity. On 13th May last, we were present at the preview of the "Azerbaijan, from Antiquity to Modernity" exhibition; it was a special opportunity to view the works that reflect the cultural diversity of the country.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation presented the exhibition to the UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) from 5th to 19th May 2015 in Paris on the traditional and contemporary artistic creation of Azerbeidjan. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation chaired by the Azerbaijan First Lady, Mehriban Aliyeva, was created in 2004 with a view to promoting the Azerbaijan cultural heritage, education, sport, science, public health, environment, as well as the support of the cultural actions and the social organizations. Since its creation, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has built privileged relationships with the broad international organizations which also work in the same sectors. This exhibition presented a good general survey of the artistic creation in the country. From the delicate earthenware mosaics, to the colourful traditional silk dresses, copperware, fine jewels, musical instruments, altogether, to put in the forefront the classical creation that is of prime importance over the contemporary creation shown in paintings and sculptures.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has come to prove that Azerbaijan relies on its rich and eclectic cultural picture to demonstrate its remarkable nature and promote its history. L'Eclectique also attended a great jazz concert that was given on the occasion of the exhibition opening. The jazz band of Chain Novrasli representing the Azerbaijan new scene was a very lovely musical discovery. The audience caught enraptured by the musicians' great performance whose talent was brilliant. The piano, percussion, note, tar (Azeri lute), and the kamancha (cords instruments) merged in harmony to directly move your soul and recall the music secret.

This exhibition has come to confirm that more will be said in the future about the Caucasian pearl of the West. Besides, Azerbaijan will organize the first edition of the European Games in Baku from 12 to 28 June 2015. Then, L'Eclectique will invite you to watch the video about the excellent Azeri pianist of Chain Novrasli.
