“Ganja Marathon-2017” to be held following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative

“Ganja Marathon-2017” will be held on September 17 following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative.


With its ancient history, Ganja city will be the first city to host the marathon among the regions, under the slogan of “Make history by your will” and “Be with us at the marathon”.


The project aims to support the development of sport in regions, healthy lifestyle, as well as propagate the ideas of solidarity for benevolent purposes amongst people of different ages in the regions of Azerbaijan.


The Ganja Marathon-2017 will be held with the support of the Regional Development Public Association of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ganja City Executive Authority. Azercell Telecom is the exclusive partner of the marathon. Implementation of the project will be performed by Sport Marketing Group (SMG).


The marathon will start from “Zafar Taghy” in Ganja city, then continuing along Nizami Ganjavi Avenue,  Heydar Aliyev Avenue, Javad Khan Street, “Ganjachay” Boulevard and Shah Ismail Khatai Avenue, end at the Heydar Aliyev park complex, covering a total of 17 kilometres.


Any person over 16 years of age may join the Ganja Marathon-2017, having got registered beforehand. Registration will take place from August 14 till September 17 at the following addresses:


1) Ganja city offices of “Azercell Telekom”


2) Baku city offices of “Azercell Telekom”


3) Ganja "ASAN Service" Centre


4)  The Azerbaijan State Agrarian University


5) The Ganja State University


6) The Azerbaijan State Technology University


7) The Youth Home in Ganja


Natural persons and corporate participants will pay no fee for the participation in the marathon, as costs of the first marathon to be held in the region will be paid by the Regional Development Public Association of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.


Awarding ceremony of the “Ganja Marathon-2017” will be in 2 categories. Men and women participants will compete for 3 places.


In each of the men and women categories, the winner of the first place will be awarded 3,000AZN, the second place 2,000 AZN, and the third place 1,000 AZN, with other gifts, as well as medals and certificates.

Baku Marathons were held under the slogan of “Conquer the Wind!” in 2016 and 2017 in the city of Baku, following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative.

Over 20,000 participants from Azerbaijan and other countries had joined the marathons. As citizens of the region have shown much interest in the marathon, a decision was taken to hold it in Ganja city.
