Vagif’s Poetry Days to be held during July 13 to 15

Vagif’s Poetry Days start with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Culture Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijani Union of Writers.

On July 13, the Poetry Days will start in Yukhary Salahly village of Gazakh, the native city of Molla Panah Vagif.

On July 14 and 15, the Vagif’s Poetry Days will continue in Shusha, our cultural capital.

Shusha had been of great importance to Vagif. Although he was born in Gazakh, the poet rose to fame and was buried in Shusha. At the time when Vagif lived in Shusha too, this city, dear to every one of us, used to be considered the cultural centre of Azerbaijan.

Within the Vagif’s Poetry Days, events will be held at various historical and cultural sites of Shusha, including Molla Panah Vagif’s museum-mausoleum complex, which was reconstructed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as before the house-museum of Natavan, at the Shusha Branch of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan, and the Kharybulbul and Karabakh hotels.

Inauguration of Molla Panah Vagif’s mausoleum and of the Poetry Home in Shusha took place on January 14, 1982, with participation of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, whose 100th anniversary is being celebrated this year. It was that visit during which National Leader Heydar Aliyev gave instruction to hold Vagif’s Poetry Days. Distinguished for his uniqueness in the history of contemporary Azerbaijani literature, Vagif’s Poetry Days started each year in Gazakh, the poet’s native city, until 1991, coming to the end on enigmatic Jydyr Plain of Shusha.

After the city of Shusha was liberated as a result of the glorious Victory of our courageous Army under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, Vagif’s Poetry Days, with its 41 year-history, have been held again in his native land, our cultural capital.
