Opening of an exhibition and a concert was held in connection with Azerbaijan in the city of Reims of France

Opening of the exhibition entitled “Cultural Values of Azerbaijan – the Pearl of the Caucasus” was held in the city of Reims of France, October 19.

Addressing the ceremony, First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva said such events will be held in future in other cities of France, along with Reims.

Saying “This exhibition will contribute to friendship and mutual respect between our countries”, Mehriban Aliyeva noted that, being a young and independent country, Azerbaijan has an old history and rich culture and, having being always a bridge between the East and West, our country has made progressive achievements in the Muslim world. Among them may be cited significant events such as establishment of the first democratic republic in the Muslim Orient in 1918,  granting women the right to vote, opening of a school for girls, and writing an opera and ballet.

“Cooperation between Azerbaijan and France is estimable. We very much respect Azerbaijan’s cultural richness”. These words belong to Mayor of the city of Reims Adeline Hasan. She said she was hopeful the cultural and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Reims will develop.

Exhibits related to our country’s ancient and rich history and culture were displayed at the exhibition. Azerbaijani carpets were among the most valuable pearls of the exposition here. At an exhibition, where all directions of our national carpet-making art were represented, a broad assortment of carpets and carpet products were presented. At an exhibition, where  samples related to all directions of popular art, copper items, lattices, Azerbaijani national garments and national music instruments were represented, book and booklets printed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and serving promotion of our country, as well as collection of books published in French also were welcomed with interest.

A concert of the State Chamber Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Gara Garayev under direction of People’s Artist Teymur Goychayev was held at the Reims Conservatory in the evening of October 19th.

This concert demonstrated that our country approaches both the national values and modern trends with the same respect. And the viewers felt this unity in interesting interpretations of our national music.

Impressions about this evening were quite rich, and turned into an example of respect for the Azerbaijani culture distinguished with its unique mood and an unforgettable memory in Reims viewers.
