The 6th International Rostropovich Music Festival started in Baku

The 6th International Rostropovich Music Festival started, December 3rd, at the State Philharmonic of Azerbaijan named after Muslim Magomayev, with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and organizational assistance by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.  


Government and state officials, well-known intelligentsia and persons of art attended the event.


Artistic director of the Festival is President of the Rostropovich Foundation Olga Rostropopvich.


Giving an interview to correspondents before the Festival’s opening ceremony, head of  department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Farah Aliyeva said the primary objective of the Festival was to organize performances by world-renowned masters of art in the homeland of M.Rostropovich. The Mstislav Rostropovich Festival has been held since 2007 at best theatre and concert halls of Baku, and, as a tradition, it gathers eminent performers from around the world together. Primary objective of the Festival is high quality of each performance.


Another tradition of the Baku festival is to discover talented young people-followers of world-renowened musician Mstislav Rostropovich.


It was noted that this year is the world-renowned musician’s 85th jubilee and 15th anniverasry of establishing his house-museum. On this occasion, the Festival’s program has become more extensive.


World-renowned musicians and groups from Russia, Italy, the Great Britain and Azerbaijan like Zubin Mehta, Enrico Dindo, Maksim Vengerov, Plamena Mangova, Sergey Krylov, Badri Maysuradze, Gianluca Marcianò, Stewart Nil, Rauf Abdullayev, Fuad Ibrahimov, Elvin Hoja Ganiyev,  Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Symphonic Orchestra, England’s and Latvian chamber orchestras, the State Symphonic Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Uzeir Hajibeyli participate in the Festival.


On the first day of the Festival, works by local and foreign composers were performed by the State Symphonic Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Uzeir Hajibeyov. Artistic director and chief conductor of the Orchestra is People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Rauf Abdullayev, and the soloist is violin player Elvin Ganiyev.
