8th International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Baku comes to an end

The 8th International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival, held with joint support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation in Baku, came to an end, May 24.  

 

The closing concert held in Heydar Aliyev Palace was attended by eminent persons of culture and art, including artistic director of the festival Olga Rostropovich.

 

Well-known musicians from around the world, including Luigi Cherubini’s Symphonic Youth Orchestra directed by Riccardo Muti, soloists of the Galina Vishnevskaya’s Opera Performance Centre, Igor Butman’s quartet, violoncellist Arseni Chubachin, the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after U.Hajibeyli and the Azerbaijan State Choir, directed by Rauf Abdullayev, participated in the Festival.  

 

Within the framework of the Festival, “Payatsi” Opera by well-known Italian composer R.Leonkavallo was shown by the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and the troupe of Galina Vishnevskaya’s Opera Performance Centre. 

 

In the first part of the concert by Luigi Cherubini’s Symphonic Youth Orchestra directed by Riccardo Muti, Franz Schubert’s Symphony Nr. 4 C-Moll, D 417 "The Tragic", D417 Symphony and, in the second part, works by Peter Tchaikovsky were performed.
