A Juma Mosque in Buzovna settlement of Baku opened after reconstruction
19 December, Juma Mosque in Buzovna settlement of Baku reconstructed as part of Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s "Azerbaijan - home to tolerance" Project was opened.
Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening.
In Azerbaijan, where the national and moral values are protected in the high level, consistently taking measures in this field is one of the major priorities of the state policy. Construction and repair of religious sanctuaries in Baku and regions is successfully continued over the passed years. Construction of Bibiheybet Mosque-Complex, one of the sacred sanctuaries in the Islamic world, reconstruction at Tezepir Mosque-Complex is the logical continuation of this policy.
Heydar Aliyev Foundation takes active part in protection of national and moral values and reconstruction of religious sanctuaries. At the Foundation’s initiative, tombs of Jomerd Gessab and Javad Khan in Ganca were restored in the high level, Juma Mosque in Shamakhy is being restored. Juma Mosque in Buzovna settlement of the capital capitally reconstructed as part of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s "Azerbaijan - home to tolerance" Project is of special significance.
Construction of Juma Mosque in Buzovna settlement that started in 1896 was left incomplete in 1900. Construction was continued in 1918, however establishment of the soviet power in Azerbaijan resulted in use of the Mosque as warehouse and store. In February 2007, reconstruction works started at the Mosque after residents of Buzovna applied to President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva on completion of restoration works.

Beside the 500-sq.m mosque, secondary and administrative buildings, man and woman ablution places, other rooms have been built here. The Mosque has completely been constructed of flagstones, the front covered with stone inscriptions in Arabic alphabet.
President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva were familiarized with circumstances at the Mosque, where 500 people can make namaz in the same time. Every condition has been created for men and women to pray separately, men will pray on the first floor, while women on the second floor.
This is not the first project Heydar Aliyev Foundation accomplishes in this sphere. In frame of the "Azerbaijan - home to tolerance" Project the Foundation has repaired and reconstructed a number of religious centers in the country. Heydar Aliyev Foundation completed reconstruction of Juma Mosque in Buzovna, capital repair and restoration works at Orthodox Church in Baku, installation of stained-glass windows and panels at Catholic Church. The project on creation of educational center for Jewish children is underway.
Expressing pleasure of works done at the Mosque, President Ilham Aliyev said all mosques repaired for the passed years are in this level, they have a nice, clean, tidy and grant architectural style.

Visiting “Ali ayaghy” Sanctuary in Buzovna in 1994 national leader Heydar Aliyev took interest in Juma Mosque, instructed implementation of construction and reconstruction works here. Opening of the Mosque is the contribution by Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the great leader’s ideas.
Expressing gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, the Mosque’s akhund said:
Today we are very happy, because the instruction by the national leader is fulfilled under Your leadership, at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative, due to support of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva. This is why, we present You with this Koran.
The akhund presented Koran to President Ilham Aliyev and said:
Let me present this Koran to Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva. Mrs Aliyeva, we wish You health. Repair works were carried out at this mosque for 3 years. We are in the month of Muharram, the month of Imam Hussein’s martyrdom, and it is very nice that You are our guest in this month. In the memory of Kerbela martyrs, we wish Garabagh to be released and we meet with You at the mosque in Shusha. We present this holy book to Heydar Aliyev Foundation, to You.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev talked to believers and local residents:
I greet you and congratulate you on the opening of the Mosque after capital repair. It is a nice event. I am very glad for realization of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative. Several years ago residents of Buzovna applied to Heydar Aliyev Foundation for reconstruction of this ancient mosque. Because this building, which was constructed as a mosque, has never functioned as a mosque.
As usual, Heydar Aliyev Foundation took all appeals by residents into consideration and created a beautiful work for short time. But this is not the first project of this kind Heydar Aliyev Foundation performs. Prior to this, an ancient mosque n Bina settlement was completely reconstructed, Pirhasan Sanctuary was reconstructed, and today we together open a nice mosque in Buzovna settlement. These kind works show both state and public organizations in Azerbaijan obtain huge achievements demonstrating their wills in all spheres.
Renovation works are intensively implemented in Azerbaijan. Protection, restoration of our national and moral values, historical, religious monuments is the priority to us. Our historical, religious monuments were restored, reconstructed for the passed years in Baku and regions of Azerbaijan. Tezepir Mosque, Bibiheybet Mosque. Repair works are underway at Ejderbey Mosque and it must go more rapidly. These works are done in other regions and cities of our republic.
I am very glad the whole public welcomes it, takes active part in these works. Perhaps this job would remain still, if not the appeal by Buzovna residents. You applied, applied to the right address and this job was done. It makes the village more beautiful and is the place for our sisters and brothers to pray. It is grand and amazing. Its exterior and interior are on the highest level. I once again congratulate you on this nice event. I wish you health.

We thank You on behalf of residents of Buzovna, on behalf of our people. Effort was made for 3 times during 100 years to repair this mosque, but it failed. We are very happy that the Mosque was repaired under Your leadership and support. I thank You all on behalf of the people.
