The Alley of Martyrs complex in Sumgait will be reconstructed following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative

On March 28, presentation of the designs for reconstruction works to be carried out at the “Alley of Martyrs” following the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and construction works for the erection of the 20^th January and Khojaly monuments took place at the Sumgait city Executive Authority, with participation of the city public, martyr families and invalids of the Garabagh War.

Architect of the monument Vagif Nazarov mentioned that during the Soviet period this monument had been made in the form of a five-pointed star, and then, after the country became independent, it was shaped into an eight-pointed star. Made of standard concrete, this monument meets neither contemporary requirement in terms of material’s quality, nor the monument’s content. 

Invalids of the Garabagh War and martyrs’ families that had attended the event thanked the Head of State and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the initiative to erect a new monument.
