Pir Hasan sanctuary

In 2005, substantial repair and restoration works were carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation at the Pir Hassan temple related to the 16th century in Mardakan settlement of Baku within the project "Azerbaijan: the Address of Tolerance".


A mausoleum at the sanctuary was constructed anew, the complex was decorated with national ornaments, improvement works carried out and a park laid out in the area around the temple being an architectural monument and protected by the state.


The area is known for locating the graves of a number of highly esteemed historic figures like Pir Hassan, Khadija Khanum, the daughter of the seventh Shiite Imam Museyi Kazym, Akhund Hajji Mirza Abu Turab Akhundzadeh, a famous cleric and author of a number of works on philosophy and history of religion, as well as Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, a recognized public figure and benefactor, and his daughter Sarah Taghiyeva.
