The pavilion “Azerbaijan” at the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy in Moscow has been basically restored with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

On November 23, First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended the pavilion’s inauguration ceremony.

Architects Sadyg Dadashov and Mikayil Useynov were the authors of the project. Walls of the pavilion were covered with marble, with the facade being decorated with national motifs, golden grape ornaments, and with stained-glass windows. The pavilion’s exposition had once covered Azerbaijan SSR’s achievements in industry, silkworm breeding (sericulture), plant-growing, agriculture, culture, art, and welfare.

Once, as with other former Soviet republics, the pavilion “Azerbaijan” too undergone some alterations, and in 1966, the building’s facade was covered with metal sheets, whereby lost its role from the standpoint of architecture and functionality.

After the government of Moscow offered to the former Soviet republics to restore their national pavilions, in 2017, it was officially handed over to the Azerbaijani side, and here, restoration works started with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The restoration works were carried out maintaining the building’s historical view and its architectural and ethnic identity. Performed with participation of professional architects and restorer-artists from Azerbaijan and Russia, the works included the exterior and interiors of the building, all exhibition halls, including walls, marble flooring, ceiling and doors, torches and marble columns, decorative elements and other parts.
