“The Son” documentary film is about Azerbaijani soldier Natig Gasimov, who was captured by Armenians during the fighting in the direction of Pirler (Khramort) village of the Khojaly district in the First Karabakh War.

Natig Gasimov fought against the enemy onslaught alone for five days after his six comrades were killed during battles for the Albanian church located on a hill near the village of Pirlar of the Khojaly district. On the sixth day, on March 12, 1992, after he had run out of bullets, his capture by the Armenian military was witnessed by Russian and Italian journalists Konstantin Smirnov and Enrico Sarzi. His capture was described in an article called “Fear” in the 14th and 15th issues “Ogonyok” magazine published in Russia in 1992.

According to reliable sources, the heroism and bravery of this fearless Azerbaijani soldier caused panic and psychological tension among enemy soldiers. Field commander Vitaly Balasanyan ordered to kill Natig Gasimov by subjecting him to horrific torture against the laws of war.

Speakers at the event included representative of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture Orkhan Fikratoglu, the film`s producer Eckart Sager, Natig Gasimov`s brother Nofel Gasimov etc.

Available in Azerbaijani and English, the film was screened twice at US festivals.
