Mehriban Aliyeva met with UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Executive Director Ms Noeleen Heyzer
Ms Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Director of the UN Development Fund for Women /UNIFEM/ paying a visit to the country visited on May 26 Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The guest was widely informed of the photographs taken from personal archive of the national leader covering separate eras of his life and activity.
N.Heyzer viewed with big interest numerous pictures reflecting the very various moments of his life and creating a wide idea of the entire history of Azerbaijan, gifts presented to him by the popular political figures all over the world, photos taken with leaders of different countries, figures of science, culture and art left deep impression on them.
Then a meeting took place with President of the Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva.
Mehriban Aliyeva expressed pleasure to see Noelleen Heyzer at the Foundation named after constructor of independent state of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and briefly dwelt on history of the Foundation. Mrs. Aliyeva stated that the Foundation, established in May 2004, aimed to study rich scientific and political heritage of the founder of Azerbaijan state Heydar Aliyev and bring to the future generations. Parallel, the Foundation implements projects dealing with education, health, culture, sports and social areas. Last year, 132 schools have been built and put into operation. The Foundation pays particular attention to the orphanages and boarding schools, organizes repair works.
Touching on health area, Mrs Aliyeva said that Foundation does all possible to help the thalassemia and diabetes children. "The Thalassemia Diagnostic Center meeting today`s standards will be soon constructed", she added.
Mrs Aliyeva noted we try to solve problems of more than a million of our countrymen that have become refugee and IDP as a result of Armenian aggression, specially education problems of children from these families and issues of women.
Talking of the big importance the Foundation gives to cooperation with leading international organizations, non-governmental organizations, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva underlined the big project implemented since last year by the Foundation together with UN. This program will ensure access of the blind and visually impaired people to ICT.
UNIFEM Executive Director Ms Heyzer, thanking Mrs Aliyeva for having time and meeting with her, said she was aware of the works done by her before coming to the country, highly valued initiatives and activities of the Foundation`s President in this field.
The guest emphasized direction of revenues gained in Azerbaijan, which has the biggest economic growth worldwide, to the welfare of people and role of Mrs Aliyeva in this.
Ms Heyzer said our country is the first she pays a visit among CIS countries.
Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva presented a book, album, audio-video CDs developed by the Foundation to the guest.
