Mehriban Aliyeva meets with UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura

UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura received Goodwill Ambassador, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Foundation of Friends of Azerbaijani Culture Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva partaking in annual meeting of goodwill ambassadors.

In the meeting Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva gave sincere greetings of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Director General. Underlining further development over the last times of cooperation between UNESCO and Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador highly valued care shown to Azerbaijani music specially to mugham, its inclusion in list of cultural legacy, purposeful activity of UNESCO in this field.

Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva informed of works done by foundations led by her, projects implemented on protection and popularization of material-cultural legacy as well mughams, at the same time mentioned need for support and help of UNESCO in this and other issues. Mrs. Aliyeva stressed impact of annual meeting of UNESCO goodwill ambassadors on general activity program.

Mr. Koichiro Matsuura thanked Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva for participation in annual meeting of goodwill ambassadors. Expressing his deep delight of presence of President Ilham Aliyev at action held at UNESCO in September of last year, Mr. Matsuura reminded that President of Azerbaijan invited him to a visit to Azerbaijan and said he is sure that this year that visit will take place.

Director General emphasized his satisfaction for development of current ties between UNESCO and Azerbaijan in education, culture and science. K. Matsuura appreciated measures of Azerbaijani President in protection of material-cultural heritage, characterized Azerbaijan as a country possessing rich historical monuments, culture as well music.

Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, Ambassador Eleanor Huseynova was present in the meeting.
