On October 28, the Second Assembly of the Coordinating Committee of the European Games to be held in 2015 in Baku took place.

 

Azerbaijan’s First Lady, Chairperson of the European Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the Assembly.

 

Chairing the Assembly, Mehriban Aliyeva said these Games meant confidence in Azerbaijan, as well as new opportunities and very serious commitment for Azerbaijan. She said: “Today Azerbaijan is known as a country of sport, and holding of respected competitions has become a tradition in our country. European and world championships are held regularly in Azerbaijan. Both our guests and experts testified to these events being held at the highest level. The First European Games to be held in Azerbaijan will be the start of a new era in the sporting movement, and Azerbaijan  will be a country to write the first page of this history. I would like to once more underline that the people of Azerbaijan highly appreciates these games and realizes the responsibility for the Games that will play a great part in the history of the European sport. At the same time, the Government of Azerbaijan have been providing all types of support to these Games and do their utmost to make sure that they are held successfully and sportsmen of Europe demonstrate bright performances.”

 

Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized a number of achievements reached since the First Assembly of the European Games’ Coordinating Committee. The Chairperson of the Organizing Committee noted that the schedule of the sporting competitions has already been drafted, and the number of officials, sportsmen to participate in the Games, as well as days, on which the Games will be held, have been reviewed. The list of places, where the sporting events will be organized, has been accomplished and financial matters analyzed.

 

In her speech, Mehriban Aliyeva talked also about the works done in the Olympic Village, and said that the place to construct a media village has been determined, the preliminary version of the European Olympic Games’ official site created, the communication strategy worked out, and an agreement has been reached on broadcasting of the Games.

 

Saying that the level of preparation of Baku for  the Games was of vital importance, Mehriban Aliyeva brought to attention that today projects associated with the Azerbaijani capital’s development are implemented, a new airport is built, and recreation establishments and parks are laid out.

 

Mehriban Aliyeva noted that ensuring close cooperation between all concerned entities during the time left was important, and expressed confidence that the European Games will be held at the highest level.

 

Taking the floor afterwards, President of the European Olympic Committee  Patrick Hickey highly appreciated the works done under Mehriban Aliyeva’s leadership, talked of the forthcoming tasks.
