An evening of Azerbaijan will be held in Cologne with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

Continuing its projects towards promoting the culture of Azerbaijan throughout the world, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will, together with the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany, realise another project in Cologne.

Being the fourth biggest city of Germany by the number of population, the city of Cologne has not been chosen to hold an evening of Azerbaijan by chance. Considered one of the largest economic and cultural hubs of the country, Cologne is called a “Metropolis over Rhine”.

Being one of the oldest cities of Germany, Cologne has played a vital role in the European history ever since the Rome epoch.

An evening to be held on November 20 will commence with a concert performed by the State Chamber Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Gara Garayev.

Works by Azerbaijan’s coryphaeus composers Uzeir Hajibeyli, Fikret Amirov, Gara Garayev, Niyazi, Jovdat Hajiyev, Tofiq Gouliyev, Rauf Hajiyev and Alakbar Taghiyev will be performed at the evening.

Paintings and photo exhibitions will also be presented at the event. Bringing together 19 painting works of talented youth, the exhibition “Germany through an artist’s eyes” will be  displayed in Cologne, after its successful demonstration in Stuttgart.

The exhibition will serve as presentation of works drawn by imagination of young artists that have never been to Germany of this country. Each year, three winners of the competition held since 2008 travel to Germany, acquaint themselves with galleries and museums of Berlin and attend master classes by German artists.

Another exhibition being demonstrated at the event displays photos reflecting the life of Germans living in Azerbaijan since the 19th century. The photos picture the business activity of Siemens brothers that once built the biggest and most up-to-date copper melting factory in Europe, and their thousands of countrymen, as well as their lifestyle.
