The “Flight to Baku. Modern Azerbaijani Art Exhibition” was inaugurated in Moscow

The “Flight to Baku. Modern Azerbaijani Art Exhibition” was inaugurated at Moscow’s  Multimedia Art Museum with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and joint organizational assistance by Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Russia and the “Baku” magazine, February 4.


In an opening ceremony attended by Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, Russia’s influential persons, public figures, people of art and guests coming from various countries of the world were present.


It was noted that, so far demonstrated in London, Berlin and Paris, the exhibition has been successful continuation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s activity towards promotion of the Azerbaijani culture around the world. The exhibition was welcomed with much interest in the Russian capital too. The exhibition, which is scheduled to continue until February 24th, exhibits 107 works by 21 Azerbaijani artist working in painting, sculpture, installation, video-art, performance and photo genres. Most of the works have been specifically created for the exhibition.


Director of the Multimedia Art Museum Olga Sbivlova underlined the event’s importance and said such an exhibition was a significant event in the cultural life of the Russian capital.


O. Sviblova thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the support in the organization of the exhibition and emphasized the roles of Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva in multilateral promotion of the Azerbaijani art and culture.

Exhibition’s curator Erve Mikaeloff underlined the richness of the exposition and originality of the works being displayed. E.Mikaeloff said such events serve the promotion of the Azerbaijani art, which has old roots, in the world: “I’m sure due to such events held with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijani art will be a worldwide known brand”. 

 

Illustrations drawn by Leyla Aliyeva to Azerbaijani fairy tales, “Butterfly”, “Our Past”, “Once upon a time”, “Love”, “Lie”, “Loneliness” and other works aroused special interest in the visitors.


Sculpture, painting and graphic works by well-known artist Altay Sadykhzadeh, morning landscapes by Aida Mahmudova, ornaments made by  Faig Ahmad of aluminium and plastic masses, works by Rashad Alakbarov and Eliyar Alimirzayev in the applied art genre attracted the visitors’ attention.


Acquainting himself with the exhibition, People’s Artist of Russia Gennady Khazanov said: “The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been playing a special role in strengthening of the relations between our countries further. In general, every event associated with Heydar Aliyev’s name is of special significance to me. This genius person has his special place in my life. I think the “Flight to Baku” exhibition is an essential step towards promotion of the Azerbaijani culture around the world”.


Movie director Yegor Konchalovski expressed his impressions of the exhibition as follows: “Just today we finish the work on the movie “Baku, I love you”. Of course, we could not make the movie without support, patronage and help from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Baku is not just a city, Baku is a civilization. I would like to thank for this support President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Foundation’s Vice-president Leyla Aliyeva. In Baku, I bought several works by Azerbaijani artists. My collection includes works by 8 Azerbaijani artists.”


Expressing his impressions of the exhibition, art director of the Russian Academy of Cinematography Yuliy Gusman said: “I’m very happy this huge exhibition is held in Moscow. Leyla khanum is also a nice artist. The Baku magazine, of which chief editor she is, is loved all around the world. The Flight to Baku exhibition is a significant event in Moscow’s cultural life”.


Head of the YARAT Modern Art Space Aida Mahmudova said: “In my works being exhibited here, I tried to revive my childhood memories. I enjoy reflecting views of Absheron, shores of the Caspian Sea. In my works, I tried to find and show moments linking the past with the present and the present with the future”.


Visitors of the exhibition were distributed cards and booklets prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation with works of artists.

After the exhibition, a dinner-party was arranged on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Baku magazine. A film and fashion show devoted to the Baku magazine was demonstrated at the dinner party.
