The 8th Mugham TV Contest is launched

The 8th Mugham TV Contest was launched at the International Mugham Centre with the support of the Azerbaijani Television, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and the Culture Ministry.

 

On the first opening day of the contest, renowned persons of culture and science, creative intelligentsia and youth joined the great mugham festival.

 

Hosts of the evening, Mumtaz Khalilzadeh and Natavan Osmanly, brought to the attention of the audience that 18 finalists were chosen this year from among over 200 contestants. The competition will be aired live, twice a week – Tuesday and Thursday – on AzTV. Following phases of the contest are expected to be held in regions of the country.

 

A video of the song “Vatan yakhshydyr” (Homeland is good), a composition of People’s Artist Alibaba Mammadov, performed by Khudayar Yusifzadeh - a martyr of the 44-day Patriotic War, was shown at the event.

 

Spectators welcomed special guests of the evening – heroes of the 44-day Patriotic War.

 

First, a short concert programme with performances of People’s Artist Mansum Ibrahimov and Honoured Artist Babek Niftaliyev was presented.

 

Video frames comprised of conversations between renowned khanendeh Alibaba Mammadov - who has given his blessings from the very beginning of the contest and shown the way to the youth by his valuable recommendations at the jury, and who passed away a few month before – with national Leader Heydar Aliyev, and his performances were applauded by the audience.

 

After the presentation of the jury, performances of the contest participants, accompanied by an ensemble led by tarzan Rashad Ibrahimov, were heard. The jury includes coryphaeus performer of mugham, People’s Artist Arif Babayev, People’s artists Sakina Ismayilova, Melekkhanum Eyyubova, Sardar Farajov, Mansum Ibrahimov, Nazaket Teymurova, Teyyub Aslanov, Honoured cultural worker Ilgar Fahmi, and Honoured artist Fargana Gasymova.

 

On the first day of the mugham contest, nine finalists demonstrated their skills. After carefully analysing each performance, the jury evaluated them by a 10-score system. The contest is expected to run over the course of following 15 weeks, including those to be held in regions.

 

Entered on UNESCO’s List of Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage, mugham, our national wealth, forms the foundation of Azerbaijan’s popular music. Mugham has entered every Azerbaijani’s life almost since they were in a cradle, accompanying them through whole life. This is the phenomenon of mugham, which purifies and lifts spirit, accompanied centuries long, a bridge from ancient times to our days and to the future. One cannot imagine our people without mugham, and mugham without Azerbaijan.

 

The first Mugham TV Contest with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was held in 2005. The contest had been devoted to the 120th anniversary of Uzeir Hajibeyov.
