Uzeir Hajibeyli 15th İnternational Music Festival comes to the end

Having continued for 10 days, the 15th Uzeir Hajibeyli International Music Festival, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, left an indelible trace in memories.

Closing ceremony of the Festival took place at the State Academic Philharmonic of Azerbaijan.

The event was attended by deputy minister of culture Murad Huseynov, renowned persons of culture and art, as well as music lovers.

At the closing ceremony performed soloists Chloe Kiffer (violin, France), Henri Demarquette (violoncello, France) and Alexander Mutuzkin (piano/ USA) with the State Symphonic Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, directed by German conductor Valentin Egel.

Works by L.V. Beethoven, Debussy and F. Garayev were performed at the programme.

Having been held since 2009, the Festival brought together well-known performers and music groups, and conductors from various countries. Interesting concerts, master classes etc. were organized with participation of musicians from USA, France, Georgia, Croatia, Russia, Singapore, Germany etc. The most remarkable event of the 15th Festival was the show of the ballet “Legend of Love” by eminent composer Arif Melikov at the Heydar Aliyev Palace. Soloists invited from foreign theatres played parts, along with artists of the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of Azerbaijan and the State Dance Ensemble of Azerbaijan, in the “Legend of Love” staged after long years in the author’s homeland.

The tradition to mark the birthday of Uzeir, a man of genius (18th September), was initiated by National Leader Heydar Aliyev. By the order signed by the National Leader in 1995 on the occasion of the composer’s 110th anniversary, each year, September 15th is marked as the National Music Day (“ Music Day of Uzeir”).

Thus, another music festival associated with Uzeir bey went down in history in a very significant time for us, when our country’s sovereignty was fully restored.
