First stage of the All-republican Olympiad for information science among higher school students takes place

Supported jointly by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies, the Ministry of Education and the Information Technologies Institute under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the All-republican Olympiad for information science among higher school students was launched. 

 

The All-republican Olympiad is dedicated to May 17th – the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

 

Having been conducted for already 12 years, the Olympiad’s objective is to boost higher school students’ knowledge of information science and software engineering, and their interest towards this sphere, as well as involving students chosen on the sphere in international Olympiads.

 

The Olympiad consists of two stages. Within a month prior to the start of the Olympiad, registration of teams representing higher schools of the republic is carried out on the Olympiad’s website – www.olimpiada.az. Each team is formed of one teacher (in the capacity of a head) and 3 students (bachelor). Maximum 4 teams on every higher school is allowed to participate in the first stage of the Olympiad.

 

62 teams from 25 higher schools of the republic have passed registration and gained the right to participate in the Olympiad.

 

The first stage of the Olympiad was arranged at the Baku Engineering University on April 29.

 

The Olympiad is conducted according to ACM/ICPC (International Olympiad for information science among teams of higher school students) rules. In accordance with the rules, one team with the best results on each education institution shall be allowed to participate in the finals of the Olympiad. At the finals, 4 teams with best results will be declared winners.

 

The winners (1st to 4th places) will be rewarded with valuable presents from “Nar” mobile operator and “BestComp Group”, as well as diplomas and certificates of honour from the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies.

 

Next (final) stage of the Olympiad will take place at the Information Technologies Institute under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
